Location
New Canada is found in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. Fresh water, fish, trees and oil are the natural resources that can be found here. Since we are an island, we do not border any countries, but we are nearest to the United States.
Our climate is well-rounded. There are four distinct seasons and the weather in general is warmer than in the old British Columbia. A typical summer day is hot with a slight breeze, perfect for going to one of our many newly formed beaches. The occasional rainstorm does happen, but not very often.
Our work force has changed drastically because we are now and island, many new jobs along the water have been opened up to the public. We have fisherman, water police, tour guides who work on boats and scientific sea researchers.

Laws & Legal System
Many of the residents of New Canada remember the old laws from before the 'Year of Horror'. We have all faced so many losses that we just want to rebuild our lives and start fresh. Most of us don't want to be involved in crime and we stick to the old ways.
A group of people called "The Watch" act like a police force and public safety team to keep our streets safe. So far we have not had to deal with any major issues, but if we were to experience something of the sort we do have a judge and a court to deal with it fairly on trial.

Each criminal is different and they are dealt with and sentenced individually depending on their offence. There is no set jail time for particular crimes. The death penalty is nonexistant.
Warning signs with slogans such as "Killing is Not Thrilling" and "Don't Steal to Get Behind the Wheel" are posted on street posts and other commonly seen places to warn people not to participate in criminal activity.

Our government system here in New Canada is just beginning to rebuild. We want to establish a democracy similar to what Canada had before. Politicians and other surviving government leaders have stepped forward and come together to create political parties.
We are to have an election that by majority vote will find the country a new leader (Prime Minister). Each region will also have a mayor to govern the area and members in the House of Commons. Any law will have to be passed through a vote in the HoC as well.
The government will do their best to please and serve everybody as best as they can. After our country-wide vote, power will be given to the candidate who recieves the most amount of votes. The Leader of Opposition will be granted secondary powers.
The Prime Minister will have overall say, however, they do need to consult the Opposition before passing any laws or finalizing plans. No one person will ever rule or dictate the entire country alone, everything is majority rule.

Because of the Red Death killing so many people, it was a true survival of the fittest. Now that it's disappeared only the strongest remain, meaning that everyone remaining in the world is physically fit, under the age of 50 and many are intellectually smart.
We want to remain as advanced as we are today so socials programs to enhance our health, lifestyle and intelligence have been set up and are paid for by the government. Health care, pensions, free education and fresh water are also all taken care of via taxes.
No matter where you are there will be a natural class division, but there is no descrimination or special treatment that goes along with it. We treat everyone as equal.
People are free to come and go from our country as they choose, but we do ask that if they leave they fill out some paper work so we can find out why. In order to make New Canada better place to live we need to find and fix any concerns that people may have.

We have many jobs and job opportunities available in New Canada. We want to be as independent as possible and continued education for everybody is very important. The government funds schools, hospitals and recreation centers so people can also stay fit; we want to have a strong nation.

We believe in freedom of choice. Religion is not something that is forced upon people, it is totally their choice. While religious protests and public recruiting are banned, there are churches and temples of all sorts for our citizens to go to and worship in.
The most common religion is Christianity, but New Canada is home to a wide variety of people with different beliefs. Many people turn to religion nowadays to pray their thanks that they are still alive today. Many church groups have been able to prosper with an increasing amount of volunteers and donations from churchgoers to rebuild after the destruction and restore their buildings.

Culture
Having a strong sense of culture is what we strive for here in New Canada. Among all the regular holidays like Christmas, birthdays, Mother's and Father's Days, Easter, Halloween, Valentines Day and Canada Day we also celebrate WS Day.
WS Day stands for "We Survived". It's a tribute to all those who lost their lives in the 'Year of Horror' and it is celebrated annually on the day of the earthquake: March 7. In this celebration of life, everybody wears red, to represent the Red Death that was also a big part of our global loss. We take to the streets and people place flowers out for their loved ones. At noon, the Prime Minister will make a speech and at 1 o'clock in the afternoon it turns into a big celebration. Music is played and snacks are served and there is a parade to showcase local talents. By the end of the night everybody has been through a whirlwind of emotions from happy to sad and everything in between. At midnight there is a fireworks show.

Our Flag:
Each part of our flag represents something that is important to our country. The red coloumns are a reminder of the old world and our mother country of Canada. The black lines are a tribute to all those that died during the 'Year of Horror' as we will never forget them. The rising sun is to represent our land, which was formerly known as British Columbia and that was part of their flag as well. Also, it represents how it is always sunny here in New Canada. The waves along the bottom represent the ocean and our new location as an island. Our national symbol is also on our flag because it is important to all the people in New Canada. All of these characteristics bind us together as a country.

Our Name:
The title 'New Canada' is to bind our past and our history to our future. The NEW part gives us a sense of hope for what is to come while CANADA is a reminder of the past.
Anthem:
We do not have an anthem yet, but our very talented musician residents are currently working on one, amalgamating verses from the original 'O Canada' into a new song that will represent our nation for years to come.
National Identity:
We do not have a coat-of-arms, but instead we have a national symbol. Much like what is featured on our flag, our logo of a rising sun is to remind us that the sun always rises and we should look forward to a new day and to be thankful that we have survived the unthinkable. This unites our population because everyone is so grateful to be alive that the honour the symbol as a hope for the future. Each resident gets a poster featuring this design when they move to New Canada to display proudly in their houses.
